It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Kenneth Douglas Brittain (1930) on May 13, 2013. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley Brittain (nee Inkster), and his 4 children: Deborah Wilson (Randy), Sharon Toffin (Jeff), Douglas Brittain (Monica), Nora Brittain (Mick Lerch). He was also adored by his 9 grandchildren: Allen Wilson, Aubrie Mingo, Stacy Toffin, Amy Toffin, Kyle Brittain, Chloe Brittain, Elise Brittain, Joseph Lerch and Cecilia Lerch, and his 3 great grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings Muriel Rutledge, Helen Kuzyk, David (Glenda) Brittain.
Ken and Shirley first met 72 years ago when Ken’s family moved from Saskatchewan to Dauphin, Manitoba. Once married, they lived in many cities in BC and Alberta, finally settling in Vernon for the last 34 years. Ken’s career was wide and varied in the construction field, operating most forms of heavy equipment from cranes to backhoes, and managing Brittain’s Excavating in the booming Calgary area. Ken was an avid traveller well known for his keen sense of humour, his enjoyment of golf, his incredible cooking skills, and the love he felt for his family.
The family would like to offer their warmest thanks and gratitude to the caring staff at Heron Grove where he spent this last year.
