Marion Frances Martin

April 30, 1912-April 19, 2015

What a wonderful life! At 102 years of age, Marion passed away in Vernon, BC with her son and daughter by her side.

In 1930 Marion left her birthplace Grandview, Manitoba to move west to Vancouver. She attended Sprott Shaw Business School and following that, worked 8 years as a secretary for an insurance company. She met and married her husband Don in 1940. They resided in Vancouver, New Westminster, Boundary Bay and Ladner.

From a farm girl in Manitoba to a wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, widow, great grandmother and special friend she transitioned from the horse and buggy to the age of technology. She thought it time to tackle the computer at age 90!

Her passions were family, music, flowers, a glass of wine and always a box of Purdy’s Chocolates! Marion had a terrific sense of humor. She encouraged those around her to have fun, have a good laugh, be kind, grateful and appreciative.

Marion was surrounded by love and friendship. The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Orchard Valley, Westridge and Heron Grove who enriched and took such good care of and interest in her. Thanks as well to her special caregivers and companions, Mabel Hutchinson and Carolyn Maclaine. She enjoyed you girls so much. Dr. Murphy’s wonderful sense of humor was a great fit for Marion. Hats off to all of you.

She was predeceased by her husband Don in 1997, her 3 fabulous Dalgleish sisters, Dorothy, Naomi and Agnes as well as Vern Newell a very special companion she called her pal.

The immediate family, daughter Jean Steele (Gordon), son John Martin (Joy), grandchildren Marty Steele (Bridget), Keri Steele, Daniel Joughin (Marria), Simon Martin-Joughin (Sophie), Maya Dalgleish Gaubin, several nieces and nephews plus the 7 “greats” celebrate the special person they have so many wonderful memories of. In the summer, the family will have a private garden party in honor of Marion.
