Martin John O'Brien

Martin was born March 8, 1941 in Sydney, NS to the late Howard and Veronica O’Brien of Sydney, NS. He moved to Terrace, BC in the early sixties. He worked in the logging industry until 1971 when he lost his right leg falling trees. He lived in Kamloops with his 2nd wife, Christa. They had a cottage on Westside Road in Vernon. After Christa’s death he moved to Vernon where he spent his final years. He was predeceased by his first wife Eileen O’Brien (Gaudet), late wife Christa O’Brien (Wormsbecker) and sister Joan O’Brien (Dave Martel).

He is survived by his two sons, Paul O’Brien Vernon, BC, Jerry O’Brien (Tammie Campbell) Calgary, AB, Step daughters, Julie- Ann Leach, Andrea Finnen Kamloops, BC, Grand children, Armea Secord (Leach) (husband Derek Secord), Garret Leach, Cody Graham, Vincent Finnen, Jonah O’Brien, Lily O’Brien, Ten surviving sisters, Carol (Jerry Young) Glenburn, Maine, Irene (Charles Sampson) Maitland, NS, Cecilia (Tom Baybutt) Vancouver, BC, Mary (Doug Marick) Georgetown, Texas, Theresa (Eugene Gale) Vernon, BC, Margaret (Patrick Kinsman) Dartmouth, NS, Rita, Vernon, BC, Elizabeth (Terry Muller) Halifax, NS, Cathy (Chris Fedson) Dartmouth, NS, Sheila Dartmouth, NS, Seven brothers, Michael Vernon, BC, Frank (Jean Thornlow) Terrace, BC, James ( Beverley Donaldson) Penticton, BC, John Vernon, BC, Leo (Jeanne Roberge) Christina Lake, BC, Joseph (Elaine Lewis) Sydney, NS, Patrick (Helen Roberts) Sydney, NS.

The Funeral Mass and Burial will be officiated by Father Peter Nguyen from St. James Catholic Church and will take place at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home (4303 Pleasant Valley Rd, Vernon, BC) on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11am.
