It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Monte Morden on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 78 years of age. He will be deeply missed by his wife Eleanore of 51 years, children: Janice (deceased), Bob (Kim), Jim (Heather) and lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren: Brett, Kelsey, Brianna, Erik and Brendan. Monte was born and raised in Kenora, Ontario. He attended the University of Manitoba and graduated with a BSc. in Pharmacy in 1959. He and Eleanore married in 1961 and moved to New Westminster where he began his career as a pharmacist. In 1962 Monte & Eleanore moved to Vernon where Monte joined Nolan’s Drugs and began a long and rewarding career as a Pharmacist and subsequent partner where he dispensed medicine, advice and good humour for over 25 years! Monte was recognized as the B.C. Pharmacist of the year in 1985. He played an active role in the community and was a long time member of Kinsmen (where he was very involved in the building of Kinsmen House for Venture Training) and Rotary Clubs as well as serving on the boards for Noric House and Vernon Rest Home.
Monte and Eleanore enjoyed an early retirement and traveled all over the world. He was a great athlete, an avid hiker and snow skier, pursuing both activities until age 77. Monte was a dedicated hockey father and a strong supporter of Kokanee Swim Club. He was devoted to his family and perhaps his greatest calling was as a Grandfather. Monte created a legacy of love, generosity and laughter for his five grandchildren. Remembering Monte will be easy; missing him will be the hardest part.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the North Okanagan Hospice Society (3506-27 Ave., Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4).
A Memorial Service will be held at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Chapel on Saturday, June 30, at 11:00 a.m., with Father Dale Normandeau officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
