Pearl passed away peacefully with loving family at her side, to go be with her Angels.
Pearl was born and raised in Portage La Prairie Manitoba, the second oldest of David Stanley and Laura Bella Riggs, raised on a farm with 8 other siblings. She married Lawrence (Lorrie) Wood in 1942 and raised 8 children of their own. Moving to Edmonton in 1965, then Pearl made Vernon home in 1989.
She is survived by her 4 loving daughters, Sharon Carpenter (George), Rita Montgomery, Linda Carpenter, and Debbie Steenkamp (Keith). Numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren! Brother Les Riggs, Sisters Joan Kupybida (Ed), and Winnie Boyachek. Son-in-law Harvey Kowerchuk. Daughter-in-laws Kathy Wood, Katherine Wood, & Edith Wood. Sister-in-laws Alice Riggs, and Kay Riggs. Numerous other family & friends.
She is predeceased by her husband Lawrence Wood (1970), daughter Judy Kowerchuk (Harvey), sons Gary (Edith), Randy (Kathy), Rick (Katherine), Granddaughters Jennifer, and Valerie, Valerie’s husband Martin, Sister Betty, Brothers Don, Orville, Neil and Glen, Son-in-law Dennis and Sister-in-law Marlyn.
She will be remembered for her laughter, her kind heart, and her ability to find the funny in everything! Her family was everything to her ~ so was her phone! Not a day went by without a call from someone! She was an avid Crib player and many challenged her at the game. She loved to pass the love of it down to others! She loved a good “road trip” and ventured off to numerous places, to make memories and friends. Mom had a love of crocheting and knitting and most have a piece of her work! However, the thing that kept her most busy was a calendar with every family member and friends Birthdays written on it. Each and every year most everyone got a Birthday card or a call! The latest thing the family did was to have a full scale 100th birthday celebration for her that will be fondly remembered for years to come by many!
This loss will be felt by so so many! She was one in a million!
We will celebrate and exchange memories in the years to come, about the life of our Mother. In her words “If you’re having fun….remember me!”
Our family wants to thank the staff at Vernon Hospice for their loving care and support they gave to our Mother.
As per Pearl’s wishes, there will be no service and in lieu of flowers, please donation to the North Okanagan Hospice Society 3506-27Ave, Vernon B.C. V1T 1S4 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
