Mr Richard Spiller

Rick was born in Vancouver, BC and attended the University of British Columbia where he earned a BSc. in Psychology with secondary science credentials and later a Masters in Education from the University of Victoria. Rick met the love of his life, Linda, during their time at UBC together, and were married in 1984. Together they moved to Vernon and built a wonderful life full of adventures: raising children, canoe trips, golf tournaments, ski days, camping, and international traveling to Ecuador and beyond. Rick was a loving and devoted father and husband, and valued family above all else.

Rick was also a beloved teacher in the Vernon School District and taught Science, Biology and Chemistry in various high schools for 27 years. His high energy, passionate approach to teaching and dedication to students and their education has inspired countless of lives.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his two children ,Stephanie and Richard; his future son in law, Daniel Michaud; his mother, Erika Spiller; his sister, Ingrid Buday; and extended family.

On behalf of the family, we would like to express sincere gratitude towards friends and family who have provided care and support to them throughout Rick’s journey.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 3rd, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Church in Vernon, BC. In lieu of flowers, those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Rick may do so to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 27th, Avenue, Vernon. BC V1T 1S4.
