by his loving

children. He was

married for 52

years to his wife

Eleanor Black,

who passed away in January of 2002. Stephen

is survived by his three daughters, Nancy

(Dean) of Bowen Island, Donna (Peter) of

Surrey, Laura (Wally) of Kamloops, one

son, Milton (Monica) of Kelowna, seven

grandchildren, Jennifer (Joel), Tyler, Brenna,

Jessa, Marina, Ashley (Rylan) and Lena, and

one great granddaughter, Gwendolyn, his

sister Julie (Dennis) of Taber and brother Les

of Lethbridge. Steve was predeceased by his

parents; John and Julianna, brother and sisterin-

law John and Elizabeth, brother Joseph

and nephew Larry.

Steve Black was born in Hungary on

December 23, 1925, the second son of John

and Julianna. Stephen along with his mother

and two other brothers John and Joseph

immigrated to Taber in l930. His father

had immigrated in l926 to prepare for their

arrival.

Steve grew up in Taber and Drumheller. He

started working at the Hy-grade coal mine in

Midlandvale, Alberta from 1941-1947. He

then spent time in Kelowna, where he and

his parents ran and owned a raspberry farm

on Black Mountain near Kelowna. Steve

met Eleanor through each other’s parents in

Kelowna B.C. in 1949. After they married

Steve went to work at the Masco Gold Mine at

Hedley, BC for about 18 months. After that he

and his wife Eleanor moved to Carrs Landing

near Winfi eld where they bought a small

orchard farm. Subsequently, in 1958, they

bought two orchards in Oyama which they

named Seymore Orchards. During this time,

he served on the Vernon Fruit Union board

of directors for many years and eventually

retired from farming at age 56 in 1980.

A private family inurnment will be held at

a later date. Messages of condolences maybe
