With heavy hearts, we announce that on June 11th, our Dad, Todd Rogers, passed away. Dad is predeceased by his father, Thomas Rogers, mother, Jaye Rogers, brother, Bud Rogers, and his loving wife, Sue Rogers, to whom he was married for 50 years.
Todd is survived by his children, Chad Rogers (Rene) and Sarah Dawson (Mark), and his special grandchildren, Nixon and London. He leaves behind many close family members and friends who will celebrate his life. Dad had a long career as a Valet at Hastings Racetrack for 46 years and also worked at Canada Post as a Postman. He shared his fun-loving life with many relatives and friends.
Though Dad wasn’t always the social butterfly, when Mom encouraged him, he became the life of the party. He will always be remembered for his kind, gentle nature, sprinkled with a few choice swear words when working around the house and yard. Born in Victoria in the back of a cab, Dad was a tough and courageous fighter all his life. From his days as a greaser growing up in North Burnaby to meeting the love of his life Sue in the '70s and settling in Maple Ridge to raise their family. They were true best friends, and Dad was heartbroken when she passed away in 2020.
When he wasn’t working during our childhood, Dad could be found listening to Rod Stewart in his Maple Ridge backyard, enjoying a cold beer while hosing down the back deck. He loved his yard and hosted many memorable parties with friends, extended family, and neighbors. Dad spent his last few years in the Okanagan with his kids and grandkids, who will miss him dearly.
He will be deeply missed by his longest and best friends, Dave and Dianna McGowan of Port Coquitlam. Dad courageously tried to "Cowboy Up" and live with a disease that rapidly took away his speech and mobility. He sailed away with Rod Stewart playing and his thumb up until the very last second. He's with Mom now, and we take comfort in knowing they are happily reunited.
Please join us on July 27th for a day at Hastings Park Races to commemorate our Dad and his love for horse racing. The first race is at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
