Our joyful, generous, appreciative, positive, and deeply loving 95-year-old Mom, Alanna Joyce Slang, passed away peacefully on November 18th in Victoria B.C, of natural causes. She was a remarkable woman, filled with a lifelong love of art and nature, and she brought warmth and kindness to everyone she met.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Howard, with whom she shared more than 60 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed countless road trips, admiring wildflowers, coastlines, and visiting friends. She was also predeceased by her son, Michael, who we tragically lost when he was 19.
Mom is survived by her children Karen (Tunc), David (Deana), Alan (Linda). Her grandchildren Emreh (Claire), Ayla (Carl), Ben (Amanda), Anna (Jed), William and Michael. She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren Ava, Kai, Alissa, and Weston.
Mom’s friendship with Betty Pringle, spanning more than 75 years, was one of the great blessings of her life. Betty and her family walked alongside Mom through celebrations and challenges alike, offering unwavering love and support.
We extend special gratitude to Berwick Royal Oak in Victoria, where Mom lived happily in her later years. We are deeply thankful for the exceptional compassionate, attentive care provided which enriched her days and brought her joy.
Since her passing, we have received countless messages from Mom’s friends and former colleagues—many of whom became lifelong friends—sharing how memorable and special she was.
For all who knew and loved her, may Mom's bright light remain a lasting legacy. May it continue to shine in your life, just as Mom illuminated ours.
