With deep sadness we announce the passing of Alexander Beattie of Victoria BC on August 21, 2021 at age 97 after a short but hard fought battle with cancer. Alex, beloved son of the late Samuel and Sarah Beattie and sister Margaret was born in Victoria BC.
He enlisted in the RCAF in 1942, at age 18, and served on the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in the motor transport division. In 1946 Alex drove for Coach Lines and BC Electric/BC Hydro, where in 1947 he met his sweetheart, Diane Lillian Lane on Starling Lane, predeceased in 1999. He retired from BC Transit as a Heavy Duty/Specialist Mechanic.
He enjoyed photography and was a member of the Victoria Camera Club; he was an aviation enthusiast, with fond memories of the Martin Mars, stationed where we watched them flying over our cabin on Sproat Lake; square dancing with mom for many years; an avid gardener and model airplane builder with his son; he was our handy man and mechanic, he loved our Corgis' and making homemade wine.
Alex will be dearly missed by his loving daughter and son, Kathy & Ken and the many people he met along the way. Of special mention is his longtime friend Russ Perry, the staff at the Kensington, his Care Team and the Staff at Victoria Hospice.
Alex was a true gentleman, kind of heart and generous without ever asking anything in return. He lived life to the fullest, taking time to talk with others he met along the way. Please raise a glass to Alex’s life -
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Victoria Hospice or to a charity of your choice.
