Fred was born and raised in Westlock, Alberta by his parents Albert and Theresia Zacek, along with his older sisters Rose and Ella. He married Betty in 1956 and had four children- Lori, Sandy, Linda and Wendy. They moved to Victoria, BC in 1965 and built a home they lived in for over 50 years. Family life was filled with road-trips, camping, BBQs, sing-a-longs, card games (which he often won- right to the very end), and lot's of laughter. Holidays were always large family gatherings. Fred especially loved Christmas, decorating inside and outside and making delicious fudge. He was also in charge of the family BBQ grilling and bartending.
While in Westlock, Fred had a career as a barber and was a volunteer fireman. When he moved to Victoria, he went into the automotive service industry. This included partnerships in two garages, he had a business selling automotive parts for many years, and then managed the inventory in an auto/marine shop during his semi-retirement years.
Fred was an avid curler, which started at the age of 14 in Westlock and continued in Victoria as a member of the Playland Curing Club and then later the Esquimalt Curling Club- where he served as President for 2 years and on the executive committee for several years. He was active in league, club, bonspiel, and various committees, as well as volunteering for multiple national and international tournaments held on the Island throughout the years.
He was also an enthusiastic golfer, getting in a round whenever he could and occasionally taking golfing trips with his buddies. He had many friends and enjoyed getting together with them for games-Lambsie or Crib.
Fred is predeceased by his daughter Sandy and two sisters Rose and Ella. He leaved behind his beloved wife Betty, daughters Lori, Linda and Wendy, and grandchildren Becky, Jacob, Josh, Emmy and Jenna. As well as mant close extended family members and friends.
As Fred always said, he had a wonderful life, and he enjoyed it to the fullest with his family and friends. He was so loving and so loved for his entire 91 years. He will be missed and loved forever.
