
Alice Nellie Belcher (nee Goransky), beloved wife, sister and friend passed away July 15, 2025 in Victoria, BC. Alice was born on June 28, 1921, near Eriksdale, Manitoba, the fourth of thirteen children. She grew up on a busy and productive family farm, where she developed a strong work ethic that she carried with her throughout her life.
Alice attended a one-room schoolhouse, often traveling there by horse. After completing her education, she moved to Terrace, British Columbia, where she worked in support of the armed forces stationed there during the Second World War.
Following the war, Alice made her way to Victoria, where she met and married Derrick Belcher (1963). With her entrepreneurial spirit and love of cooking, she opened a popular breakfast and lunch restaurant, known for its hearty, nutritious meals served to the hardworking men at BC Forest Products. Later, she went on to work at Victoria General Hospital.
Alice had a zest for life and a passion for travel, exploring countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, and much of Europe. She was also an avid gardener and a devoted animal lover, caring for many pets of all kinds over the years.
In her later years, Alice lived at Selkirk Seniors Village, where she was known for her warmth, resilience, and lively spirit. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
