Allen Frederick Layfield

Sadly, Al passed away at Saanich Peninsula Hospital one month before his 90th birthday. He is survived by his wife Laura, her children Diana & Jeffery. His daughters Kerrie (Craig) Wendy (Dean), sons Sean (Angie) Ian (Gin), grandchildren Luke, Brent, Dane, Dries, Nicole, Mieke, Oliver & 8 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his daughter Debbie & son-in-law Cees.

Allen was born in Carragana, SK. He moved to Victoria in 1955 to a long career with Victoria Paving, Island Asphalt & later founded Venture Equipment.

His many workloads were taken on with commitment & integrity leaving little room for leisure or hobbies. When retirement came it hit him hard, gradually he relaxed, enjoyed casual golf games with some of his buddies, took on house hold chores, pruning of the shrubs & lawn maintenance at their beautiful home. He & Laura traveled & explored such countries as Russia, China, Holy Land, Turkey & even an African Safari to mention but a few.

Over time he was stricken with many cancers. He overcame each one as they arrived & never fussed or talked about any of them. Allen started slowing down and soon after memory lose became apparent, Dementia was creeping in. It troubled him to not recall various events of his life and family. The long walks in Polo Park & chats with his neighbors became less & less frequent but he remained the gentle soul that we had all come to know.

Al & Laura were married 35 yrs & were members of Peace Lutheran Church, Sidney.
