May 1, 1916 - Dec. 31, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving, devoted mom, grandma and great grandma.
She died peacefully on New Years Eve at Royal Jubilee Hospital with family members by her side.
Gussie was born in Burnaby, but moved to Victoria at the age of 2 and lived on the same street in Oak Bay for over 70 years.
She was the longest living contributing member of the Oak Bay United Church, which included working for many years as the church
secretary. She made many lifelong friends through her years spent at the church.
Gussie lived through two World Wars, the Great Depression, and likely the most dramatic lifestyle changes the world will ever see - and she took it all in stride. At 99 1/2 she experienced her share of loss and challenges in life, but never felt sorry for herself and loved life with a passion. Gussie had a great sense of humour, making us laugh until her final days. Never one to pass judgment, she had a warm and gentle soul and for such a tiny person, an unparalleled strength. She was famous for her love of McDonald’s cheeseburgers, Starbucks coffee, and reading the newspaper - but most of all, she fiercely loved her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is predeceased by her husband Bill, her brother Willy (Nedra), and sister Mabel (Burt). She is survived by her daughter Sandra (Norm),
son Ian (Sharon), grandchildren Stacey (Kenny), Darryl (Angie), Carly, Connor & great grandson Deacon as well as numerous friends and relatives.
A small family memorial will be held at a later date. Our thanks to all the staff at Kiwanis Pavilion and Royal Jubilee Hospital for their support and care of Mom
"The beauty of a life well lived is that it's never forgotten"
Rest in peace Mom. God Bless. Until we meet again.
All our love always.
