1990 – 2026
It is with loving affection that we remember Darby MacWilliam, born in April 1990, who passed away as the sun set on a Saturday afternoon in January 2026. Darby was a vibrant soul whose warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit touched everyone who had the chance to know her.
Darby grew up in Victoria, surrounded by the beauty of the west coast. She pursued studies in public health and human resources and met her partner Larissa, while dedicating her summers to supporting children with diverse-abilities, at Camp Shawnigan.
A true adventurer at heart, Darby’s love for travel took her across continents. She explored Australia, Iceland, England, and Europe, marvelled at the wonders of Southeast Asia, and dug her toes into the sandy beaches of Mexico and Punta Cana. Her journeys were filled with curiosity, fun, and memories that she fondly recounted to those closest to her.
Together, Darby and Larissa moved up to the Yukon and spent 10 years building friendships and enjoying the northern lifestyle. Darby considered both the Yukon and Vancouver Island her home, and her connection to each place reflected her deep appreciation for nature and community. Whether she was tending the garden or making sourdough pancakes, Darby always found joy in life's simple pleasures.
Darby cherished time spent with friends and family; creating delicious meals, camping and always sharing a good laugh. You could often find Darby outside, paddling on the water, riding her bike, walking her dog, or simply enjoying a coffee in the fresh air and sunshine.
Darby was deeply devoted to her loved ones. She will be profoundly missed by her partner Larissa, her dog Ellie, loving parents Susan and Scott, predeceased brother Tristan, and a large circle of aunts, uncles, extended family, and friends. Her genuine care and optimism for life made her the heart of every gathering. Her playful banter was a gift to us all.
Darby’s life was filled with adventure, compassion, and laughter. Her memory lives on in the stories shared by those who loved her. Her matter-of-fact nature, sense of humour and kindness reached the hearts of many and will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to saveyourskin.ca; an organization that supported Darby over the years.
