The love of Lynn's life (her beautiful Cape Bretoner) has passed away after a courageous 8-month battle with brain cancer. Don is survived by his much-adored wife Lynn, his deeply loved family including sons Troy (Jennifer) and Lee (Madeline), grandsons Marc, Nicholas, Blake, and granddaughter Tianna, brothers Shaun (Kathy) and Joel (Norma), and many nieces and nephews on his and Lynn's sides, and his many friends. He was predeceased by his father Donald (Doc) in 1967, his brother Bill in 2003, and his mother, Angela Theresa MacLean, 2015. First, last and foremost in his life was the love of his Lyndy Lou and the love of his family. Don joined the army reserves under-aged, and the army as a young teenager. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers - RCEME. He was promoted to Master Warrant Officer at a very young age, followed by commissioning a number of years later. He retired after 28 years in the Army with service throughout Canada and overseas. Following his military career, Don immediately went to work first as the Hazardous Materials Officer and then as the Formation Safety Officer at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt. He worked for 43 years with DND, and took pride in his years with the Armed Forces and pride in his support role as a civilian with DND. At an early age he took up guitar playing, and played in a couple of bands. More recently, the electronic keyboard became his musical passion. Travelling and RVing were favourite pastimes. Don and Lynn met on the 21st of April, 1967, at the Olympic Gardens dance hall in Halifax. He loved Lynn from the first moment he saw her, and every moment since. They walked the beaches of Nova Scotia and the trails and beaches everywhere they lived, hand-in-hand, throughout life. They shared a passion for their family, for music, for travelling, and for life in general. Don left this world in the glow of the deep and abiding love of his wife and his family. Special thanks to the wonderful nursing staff at Victoria Hospice, the Palliative Care Team and VIHA. His last wish was that family and friends find ready acceptance in his passing, and that they embrace life with joy and enthusiasm. Service will be held on Friday, May 27th at 2 pm at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, with reception to follow. Burial will be private.
Arrangements under the direction of First Memorial Funeral Services, Victoria, BC.
