Don passed away peacefully February 19, 2023 at Victoria General Hospital following a stroke. Don is predeceased by parents Margaret and Alfred Moss, and father-in-law Clarence Blaseckie. Left to cherish his memory are his treasured wife, Rose, sister Linda (Uwe) Kroll, Linda and Rose’s families and a giant circle of heartbroken friends.
Don was born in Vancouver April, 1945. He grew up in Penticton, where he collected plentiful content for his colourful stories of shenanigans on Leir St. and around Skaha Lake. In his early 20’s, he moved to Vancouver to work for the phone company, but soon left the confines of adulthood to become the Road Manager for the popular rock band, The Centaurs…much to his parents’ chagrin. We’ve all enjoyed his tales of sailing to and travelling through Europe with the band and living life in the rock and roll fast lane.
Returning to Canada, he re-joined CT&S and experienced a rewarding 31-year career there, retiring as an Engineering Manager at BC Tel at the enviable age of 52.
Don and Rose wrote the script on how to live life in retirement. Some of their favourite memories include a 21-year adventure of life off-the-grid at their beloved cabin on De Courcy Island; laughter-filled travel; cycling; and priceless moments enjoying their desert vacation home.
Don was a ‘fixer’, the go-to person and problem-solver on just about every topic, and he devoted countless hours contributing to the improvements of every community he lived in. He will be remembered for his curiosity, his wry sense of humour, his oft-repeated but always entertaining stories, his letters to the editor, love of music and his passion for birdwatching.
Rose is grateful for the support and kindness from family, friends and neighbours.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Gorge Vale Golf Course on Sunday, March 12, 1:00-4:00.
In Don’s memory, be kind and generous to family, friends, community and wildlife.
Treasure time with your loved ones and, in Rose’s words, “Live it Up”.
