On March 15, 2022 Allen left us suddenly, but peacefully and much too soon. He left behind more family than he realized he had; his family at Canadian Tire, his condo building family, and many long-time friends who became his family. He also left behind his sisters, Sandy and Beth (John) and his special niece Cody. He was predeceased by his mom, Florence Walker.
He left us all shocked, saddened, and unsure how we are going to move on without his brilliant mind, fun-loving nature and daily jokes and songs.
He loved his job at Canadian Tire and spent more hours than he was scheduled to work devising and implementing his many plans, some of which included better lighting, product labeling, and promotional builds, while also fixing returned and defective merchandise and helping customers. He loved nothing better than to problem solve and improve upon something in the store. There was no challenge too great.
At home, he was usually working at his computer or home workshop devising and developing programs, games, and different inventions. Allen saw the world differently. He was constantly curious and would put in endless hours and effort to figure out how things worked and to create things. He loved everything about Halloween and designed and created his own costumes. He loved Dr. Who and built a life-sized Tardis with lights and moving parts. He and a friend built a foundry. At the time of his passing, he was working on building a robot that he had been talking about for years. He loved to read and watch movies. He loved music and to sing. He loved all things science fiction.
Allen had a huge heart and loved to help and have fun. He had a wicked sense of humour and loved to make people smile.
I don’t know if we all realized the impact that Allen had on us. There is so much that we will miss about him. So, to honour him; be kind, do something nice for someone, be curious, take something apart to see how it works, fix something or make something better than it was when you found it, think outside the box, invent something, design a computer program, build a Tardis, build a robot or a drone, read a book, go outside and look at the stars, identify a constellation, sing a song and change the lyrics, tell a joke, drive someone home, watch a movie. And most of all, believe in yourself, take pride in your work, respect yourself, and look after your physical and mental health.
Leave the world a better place than it was. That is what our brother did…
Allen will be laid to rest with his Mom on May 25 at 6:30 pm at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 3822 Cedar Hill Cross Rd, Victoria, BC. There will be a short service grave side.
