He was born February 3rd 1928 in Edgerton, Alberta, to Mary Barrington and Russell Earl Stratton.
As a young man, Doug's love of musical theater was fostered by performing in the theatrical productions produced by his talented mother. Fishing at the cabin and spending time with his aunt "B" (Beatrice) at her home where she kept her angry birds (turkeys), were some of his favorite past times. He spent free time reading, working on his family tree and planting the community rock garden. Doug loved horseback riding trips, dog shows, curling, theater productions, and travel.
His time in the banking industry, living in remote communities, began his enduring passion of Thursday Bridge night with friends. Doug loved to entertain. His dinner parties with family and friends were well attended and are fondly remembered.
Doug served in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he participated in the aerial mapping of the northern Canada. He retired with the rank of Captain.
