Erika Brown

Erika Brown (nee Schiffmann), formerly Erika Mertling, passed away suddenly on September 16, 2017 at home in Victoria, B.C. at the age of 83. She is survived by her husband Robert A. Brown, daughter Brigitte C. Mertling, son-in-law Thomas J. Gillette, and grandchildren Jordan Karl Gillette and Emilia Genevieve Erika Gillette of Brampton, Ontario. Born in Kassel, Germany, Erika immigrated to Canada in 1957 and raised her family in her new country. She lived and worked in Toronto and North Bay, Ontario for many years before retiring to Victoria with her husband Bob. An active member of Victoria's Edelweiss Club, Erika loved singing, reading, baking, gardening, and socializing with her many German friends in Victoria, Germany and Ontario. She also greatly enjoyed long walks by the ocean with Bob, as well as spending time with her cherished grandchildren. A service will be held for family and friends on Saturday October 14, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Marguerite d'Youville Parish Church, 2490 Sandalwood Parkway East (at Torbram), Brampton, Ontario L6R 3A4.
