Thinking of you during this sad time.  A quick passing for Oweny, a shock for the family.  Keeping you in my prayers.

When I was little I was timid in your presence. You were a giant with a deep bellowing laugh. But one day, I came over and was crying because I got a really bad haircut. You tried to make me feel better by making a joke about Elvis and I started to realize that you weren't scary. You are the only person who took me to the horse races and bought me cheesies. You let me come into your house whenever I wanted. Even in the wee hours of the morning to sleep with Kerr in her awesome waterbed. As I got older, you had a sympathetic heart about my teenage troubles and I got to see how a lady should be treated by a man by how you related to Kerr. I will always remember you buying her roses. Thank you for being the dad that my best friend needed. You were perfect for her and it was a blessing for me to have grown up with you around too. And thanks for taking me to bingo. That was fun too. You lived well and will be missed by many xoxox

Carol my friend , we are so sorry for your terrible loss. Gene was loved by so many and is one of the kindest most soft spoken men we have had the true pleasure of knowing. We are here for you if you ever need anything. Prayers and hugs to you and all your family.

Dear Carol and family, we are so sorry for your loss. We send you hugs and prayers to help you heal. Having been school friends we have so many wonderful memories of the times and fun we had with Ownie. Then came Carol and more fun times (you were the apple of his eye). How time flies.

Mr. Coll, I was only 8 when we met, and you were so big and tall, and your voice was so low, that you made a HUGE impression.  You and Carol always made us neighbourhood kids feel welcome in your home, and feel that we were part of your life too. Even if we were just kids, you made us feel that what we were doing mattered.  You made time for people.  When you asked others how they were doing, you genuinely cared about their response and well-being. You wanted others to do well, and be well, and be happy. As a kid, as a young adult, and as a middle-age mom chasing my son through the pharmacy while trying to have a conversation with you :) and watching you laugh at me, I have always enjoyed the time you have shared with me.  Your love for your family and friends has been instrumental.  Much love to you, and to your family and friends.  You will be missed, and not forgotten.

Carol. I am so very sorry for your loss. I have known you and Gene for a short while, but you two were a fun couple - well suited to each other. He was the straight man to your funny ways. I will miss him and will do my best to look out for you. Take care.

My dear sweet Carol, I was so saddened to hear of Gene's passing. I remember so many good times with him way back in the Tony Bennett / BC Tel days. The laughter and the stories we all shared. He gave the biggest and best Bear hugs too.

Gene had a deep, calming voice even in the midst of chaos; a generous-spirited presence always; a stalwart friend; and a valued neighbour whose loss leaves a huge void in our small community. My deepest sympathies to the Coll family.

New to the west coast at 10 years old, Gene welcomed me with open arms and made me feel part of his family.  I saw him recently and got my final big bear hug.  It was a good one and I will cherish it always.  Gene, I'm sorry I never wore a coat and always slammed your car door when you took me places.  Thanks for your patience and love.  I will miss you.

Shocked by the news of Gene's death.  We had some great times together on the golf course and over a few cool ones. Great recollections of him breaking into song and making an evening memorable.
