The twelfth child in a family of thirteen (7 boys and 6 girls), when she passed Mom was survived by the last member of her generation, her younger brother Walter.
Mom worked in a variety of occupations prior to marrying Dad. This included employment at the Boeing Employee Cafeteria on LuLu Island in Richmond, B.C. where Aunty Linda was the head Chef and Aunty Walda was the head Pastry Chef.
After the secession of the War in Europe Dad was home on leave in May 1945 when the news came through on the radio that Japan had surrendered. After waiting out the duration of the war Mom and Dad were married on June 12, 1945 with Uncle Douglas and Aunty Elsie serving as witnesses.
After buying a farm Mom and Dad settled in the Whitemouth area. Mom was never very far from her kitchen either preparing food, baking or canning produce from her garden.
Valerie and Darrell were born and spent their formative years in Whitemouth and grandchildren and great-grandchildren followed in time. With the pending completion of the Atomic Energy of Canada facility in Pinawa, Mom and Dad relocated to Prince George, B.C. where Dad was employed by British Columbia Hydro working throughout northern British Columbia. Mom kept the home fires burning while Dad travelled for work.
Prince George was followed by a transfer to Campbell River, B.C. with B.C. Hydro and eventual retirement to Victoria, B.C. where Aunty Helen and Uncle Donald had resided for many years. Mom was a member of the Eastern Star and she and Dad spent many happy hours in Campbell River attending a variety of Lodge functions.
Mom and Dad enjoyed their retirement years travelling in their motorhome visiting family and friends and looking out their living room window at the Pacific Ocean.
Mom and Dad experienced many changes during their 72 years of marriage but one constant was Mom’s attention to family.
