Glenna Jean Drummond, born on September 21, 1930, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, passed away on November 7, 2024, at the age of 94. Raised in several prairie towns, Glenna’s family moved to Victoria, BC, in 1943, where she would go on to make her home for much of her life.
In 1966, Glenna pursued her passion for education at the University of Victoria, earning a Bachelor of Education degree with a focus on art. She went on to spend 23 fulfilling years as an elementary school teacher, 19 of those at Monterey Elementary. Known to her students as “Mrs. Karst” or “Mrs. Drummond,” she was a beloved teacher, particularly known for her annual music and dance productions, which left lasting memories for many. After retiring, Glenna remained active for more than three decades, enjoying curling, lawn bowling, bridge, tap dancing, and golf, as well as creating a remarkable collection of watercolor paintings. She and her late husband, Cecil, who passed away in 1998, cherished hosting the annual Pipes family reunion at Spider Lake, a tradition they continued for many years.
Glenna’s life was rich with joy, creativity, and a deep love for her family and community. After the sudden passing of her beloved daughter, Kathryn, in March 2024, Glenna moved to Hart House, where she embraced her new home and participated in all the activities offered. When her health recently declined, Glenna chose to join her many loved ones who had gone before her.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet (David) Ricciuti and Rosemary (Ken) Schwauren, and her grandson, Dominic (Drue) Ricciuti, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Glenna’s passion for dance, art, and community will continue to inspire all who knew her. In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated and memorialized at Royal Oak Burial Park alongside family members. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hart House for the exceptional care, comfort, and love they provided to Glenna.
