She will be fondly remembered and missed by her loving family: son Richard and his wife Beverly, daughter Linda and her husband Daryl and grandchildren Evan and Sean as well as all her nieces, nephews and cousins in Kingston and Holland. Janny was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Leo.
Janny was born February 19, 1925 in Vilssingen, The Netherlands and married Leo in 1950. In 1952 they moved to Ontario where they started a family and their adventures began. They took up cross country skiing and always encouraged friends to join them. Summertime took them camping and on vacations with family and friends. In 1990 they settled in Sidney BC. Here they would spend hours hiking and exploring their new home on Vancouver Island and said the salt water drew them there. Their love of travel took them all around the world from Canada to Singapore, Russia and South Africa. Janny was always full of energy and never let her age hold her back. On a visit to Niagara Falls, at age 80, she ran to the front of the Maid of the Mist just to make sure her grandchildren had a front row spot and on their trip to South Africa, at age 82, she was the only one in the group who rode an ostrich. She walked on the Great Wall of China, cruised down the Yangtze River, rode an elephant and went up in a hot air balloon. Janny lived a full and happy life with no regrets.
We, the family, are very grateful to mom’s neighbours and friends who helped us over the years, the staff and volunteers at Beacon Community Services at the Shoal Center in Sidney and the staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their caring and kindness they gave to our mom, Janny.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Beacon Community Services at the Shoal Center (250) 656-5537.
