Jeet was born in Pathlawa, India on May 5th, 1940. She was the third youngest of seven children. In 1956 she married Harbhajan Singh Gahunia and went on to have two loving sons. In 1989 she moved to Canada to embark on a new life, although her heart would always remain in India, where she spent most winters.
Jeet, or Bibi as she was lovingly called by almost everyone, spent many years as part of the close knit farming community here in Victoria. She met many great friends during her time there and remained close to them throughout her life. She was passionate about cooking, knitting, gardening and weaving, but was notoriously shy about showing off her creations. When asked about her work, her response would always be a timid giggle and quick exit. We will cherish all the handmade gifts and the memories of the countless hours she spent teaching us her craft. For those of us who were lucky enough to truly know her, it's the warmth she exuded from the moment you walked in the door that we will miss most.
Jeet leaves behind her loving husband Harbhajan, her two sons Jagtar and Sukhbir, her five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her huge heart, warm smile and her overwhelming desire to care for absolutely everyone she loved.
