She went to BCIT and UVic to further her education and worked at the MDS Metro Lab before it became Life Labs.
She was a lifelong member of Girl Guides and the Anglican Church (St.Luke's).
Her life was one of service to all she knew, family, friends and organizations. Even strangers on the street got a hello and a kind word.
She gave over 100 pints of blood, knitted over a 1000 bears for children in hospital and any one else who wanted one, wrote poetry that was published in the church bulletin and loved to share with others whatever she knew. She loved volunteering, knitting, sewing, music and mystery novels. She even sold some of the sweaters she made. She was passionate about the daily crossword, Sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, keeping her home in good repair and her gardens. Most of all she loved her family and friends.
Donations in Joan's memory may be made to Girl Guides of Canada, South Vancouver Island; St.Luke's Anglican Church, Alzheimer's Society / Dementia Research, or the University of Victoria.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church at Cedar Hill and Cedar Hill Cross Road in Victoria at a later date.
