

John Eley Boel passed away peacefully st Sidney-All-Care Residence in Sidney BC on March 4, 2017 at the age of 90. He was born in Hojslev Denmark to parents Kristjan Kristensen and Katrine (Kjaersgaard) Boel. The family immigrated to Canada in 1929 first living in Calgary Alberta where they ran “Dana Home” a residence for Danish immigrants. In 1945 the family settled in Victoria BC.
John is survived by his son Gary, daughter Daunine (David) Burbank and grandson Derek and numerous relatives in Denmark. Predeceased by his wife Muriel Elizabeth in 1998, brothers Henning, Kenny and sister Elsie.
John began a life long passion for music while attending the Lutheran Church with his family. He studied and enjoyed many exciting years performing with the Victoria Operatic Society. John's career as a teacher began at Normal School Teacher Training College. He enjoyed sharing his love of music as a teacher and band director with Victoria students for over 35 years at Esquimalt, Lansdowne and Shoreline High Schools, Brentwood College and numerous elementary schools.
In retirement John established and organized the Victoria High School Archives. Creating displays showcasing the history of the high school he so loved. He trained as a marathon runner entering races in Victoria and Honolulu. John was a keen fisherman, golfer, carpenter and restorer of Mustang cars. In his youth he played many sports including rugby and ice hockey. In his retirement he seldom missed his grandson's ice and roller hockey games.
John family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Sidney-All-Care for the professional excellence and loving care they provided to John.
Memorial service will be held at Sidney-All-Care Residence, 2269 Mills Rd, Sidney BC on March 25 at 2pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John's life. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Victoria Dandelion Society.
