On March 2nd, 2022 at age 87, our Mom Katie passed peacefully into God’s heaven with
her loving children by her side at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
Predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 46 years, Franklyn Louis, beloved parents, Helen (Yela) and Joseph (Josip), cherished sister Anne and special friend Mike.
Survived by her children, Pamela (Christopher), Susan, Mark (Angelina), grandchildren, Emmett, Nina, Jordon, extended family members and friends, all of whom she loved and adored.
Born and raised in Port Alberni, she spent a happy childhood on the family farm, enjoying delivering the dairy milk with her Father. Teen years were spent skating, playing sports, in a local drill team and beauty pageant, adventures with friends in the surrounding natural environment and the start of a lifelong interest in bowling of which she won many awards for her skill.
At age 15 Mom began her decades long career as a banker of which she so enjoyed. She was highly respected by her colleagues and customers for her congeniality, service and tireless work ethic.
Katie and Frank’s eyes first met at the bank in Port Alberni in 1955. It was love at first sight. They were married in February 1956. Following Dad’s radio career to Swift Current, Calgary, Vancouver and Kamloops, they finally settled in Saanich. Their theme song “Memories are made of this” complete with “three kids for the flavor’’ was in the making.
Mom loved to garden, following the inspiration of her own Mother. Her amazing baking and cooking skills, pies, much loved butter tarts and shortbread were enjoyed by many!
Over her long and brave battle with COPD there were countless kind medical, private and community care personnel who took a special interest and consideration of our Mom. In particular, during the last year and months of her life. We are beyond grateful to all her “merciful angels.”
A private burial took place March 10th, 2022 when Mom and Dad were laid together in their final resting spot. In Katie’s memory, donations would be gratefully accepted by the Red Cross, B.C. Lung Foundation, Victoria Hospice, Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care Unit / Gardens or The Mt. Newton Society loan cupboard.
