Laverne Mary Knapik

Laverne passed away peacefully in the company of her daughters on January 24, 2025 in her beloved home. She was born in Revelstoke, BC on April 20, 1930. Laverne enjoyed a childhood of freedom and adventure. She fell in love with horses and recalled many happy memories of riding on her aunt's dairy farm. After high school Laverne moved to Victoria to study nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital. Her calm and loving nature served her well as a nurse in Spokane, WA and Victoria. Laverne married Michael Knapik in September 1958. Even though she gave up her nursing career to become a full time mother, she remained the unofficial neighbourhood nurse offering advice and tending to cuts and scrapes. Laverne was a kind and loving friend to many.

She was predeceased by her husband Mike in 1996 and is survived by her children Ann (Paul) Gordon, Theresa (Ken) Dillon, John (Wendy) Knapik, Catherine Walker and Paul Knapik; grandchildren Laura Gordon, Ian (Andrea) Gordon, Claire (Arran) Gordon, Natalie (Marco) Rueckert, Elliot (Maggie) Dillon, Blair (Aubray) Knapik, Mark Knapik; great grandchildren Asher and Oakley Dillon, Reese and Sadie Knapik, Theodor Rueckert.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 31 at 10:30am in Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, 4040 Nelthorpe St. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the food bank of your choice.
