Lloyd was born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan to David and Lizzie LIESCH. Soon after, the family moved to Barnes Crossing where he lived with eight younger siblings on the family homestead. Dad’s children can recite with precision the oft-told stories of farm life in rural northern Saskatchewan and his wonderful memories of his brothers and sisters. Running 12 miles in the snow on his 18th birthday to enlist in the Air Force is one of those repeated stories. Dad was proud of his WW2 Air Force service and enjoyed lifelong benefits of his ‘veteran’ status. Following his time in the service, he relocated to Victoria, where he excelled as a home furnishings manager at the T. Eaton company for 20 years. Then, using his acquired experience in floor and window coverings he established LIESCH Interiors, which he successfully nurtured for 15 years, before selling and retiring. In later years, seeing Liesch Interiors vans driving around town brought him great delight. Dad was an active member of Royal Colwood Golf Course for 50+ years, and organizing and playing in golf tournaments with friend Gordie Howe was a favourite memory, along with his treasured hole-in-1! Dad and Beth spent almost 20 snowbird years in the Arizona desert, hosting family and enjoying retirement. Charming and confident, Dad enjoyed the company of women. He outlived three wives (Anne, Muriel and Beth) and basked in the attention of several girlfriends and companions. Dad loved and was deeply proud of each of his seven children - Judy, Lynn and Doug from first marriage, Jan and Donna from second marriage and Bruce and Norman (deceased) from his third marriage. He was a playful grandpa and great grandpa to 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In mid-life, he deepened his relationship with Jesus and spent many years in support and service of his local church families. Although not highly educated, there was nothing Dad couldn’t build, fix, or figure out. He lived his life with tremendous optimism, positivity and confidence and frequently said he expected to live to 120! For the last five years, Dad received quality care at Veteran’s Memorial Lodge, and the family is endlessly thankful for their patience and compassion. He will be forever missed and we are grateful for the blessing of his life. A service will be planned for a later date.
