With a heart full of wonderful memories, it saddens me to share the passing of my Mum, Margot Smith, on April 13, 2024. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward (Teddy), her parents Hans and Maria Jorgensen, Ted’s parents Robert and Christina Smith, and all of her brothers and sisters-in-law. She leaves to mourn her passing her devoted daughter, Anne Wall.
Margot was born in Denmark and came to Canada with her family when she was a toddler. She spent her formative years in several small towns in Alberta’s foothills before moving to Victoria when she was in her teens. Margot enrolled in Sprott Shaw College and later secured a job with the Blue Line Taxi Company. She married Ted in 1949, and while expecting Anne, she dedicated herself to her family and their fruit tree business on Wilkinson Road.
During their retirement years, Margot and Ted enjoyed entertaining in their new home, gardening, and traveling. After Ted's passing in 1992, Margot's fiercely independent nature shone as she maintained her home and garden single-handedly. She cherished travel, sports (especially watching her 'Trevy'), theater, concerts, reading, and knitting. Many still wear the popular teddy bear sweaters she knitted.
Thank you to the health care professionals who cared for Mum, especially Dr. M. Stanwood for many years and most recently, Dr. I. Rajani, Dr. A. Lee, and Dr. R. Russel.
Tributes may be made to the charity of your choice. Alternatively, as Mum loved flowers, she would undoubtedly be honored if you planted a flowering shrub in her memory, much like many of you planted trees in memory of her beloved Teddy.
