Marion Margaret (Peg) Peters, age 100 of Victoria, BC passed away Thursday October 9, 2025 at The Priory in Victoria. She was born March 21, 1925 in Yorkshire, England to the late Clwyd and Marion Abbey. Peg grew up on the Isle of Wight and developed a love of sailboats and the coast. As a teenager, Peg lived through the Second World War and lost family and friends, a period that stayed with her and shaped her life, instilling in her a sense of duty to help others.
Peg earned a degree in social work from the London School of Economics and emigrated to Canada in 1952. With an adventuresome spirit, she camped her way west from Quebec and settled in Calgary, Alberta where she started her family before moving to Victoria, BC. Peg spent her career ensuring the safety and welfare of children, offering support services and providing counselling to children and families.
Peg was an avid bridge player and earned the title of Life Master. She also enjoyed golf, knitting, sewing and travelling with friends to experience new places and visit places of her past. Peg loved animals (except snakes), and was always the first to offer pets and cuddles to her furry friends. Peg was devoted to her children and grandchildren, despite no one being able to play bridge, and was always very proud of her British roots.
Peg was preceded in death by her parents, Clwyd and Marion; and brother Robert and wife Joan.
She is survived by her son Robert and wife Maggie Reidy; daughter Sarah and husband Michael Shasko; grandchildren Zachary, Jordanna, Josephine, Samantha; and cousin Vivienne Beck and her English family.
Thank you to the staff at The Priory for your care and compassion for Peg in her final months.
Holding the position of wise and loving matriarch, Peg will be dearly missed.
A small gathering will be held in Peg’s honour at a later date.
