Marlyn met Jack on a bus to Camp Borden, Ontario for a dance. They were both recruits in the Canadian Army for WW2. It was a love match that lasted 68 years of marriage . They were married in Hamilton, Ontario, in July 1946.
Marlyn moved to Seven Sister Falls, Manitoba, away from her immediate family and friends, to begin a life with Jack. Her life with Jack had her living along the Winnipeg River and Nelson Rivers in Manitoba Hydro towns for employees and their families. Marlyn and Jack moved back and forth between Seven Sisters, Great Falls and Jenpeg before settling in Winnipeg twice…once in Crestview and later in Charleswood.
Next, Marlyn went with Jack to Alcan in British Columbia, living and working in Kemano, then to Vancouver before retiring to Chemainus, Vancouver Island.
In 1950, their first daughter was born, Diane Lynn, and in 1953 Debra Dawn, her second daughter, graced the world. When asked about her greatest accomplishments, she said, “raising two daughters, I’m very proud.” Marlyn taught Sunday School in Seven Sisters, Community Kindergarten in Great Falls, worked in a floral shop in Winnipeg and kept the Guesthouse in Kemano well-stocked.
Marlyn and Jack both loved curling and baseball; of course, parties…. many friends were made over the years. Marlyn was known for her loving nature, her welcome laughter and fun times that came with a pot of Chili and rye bread for many a guest!
She lived out her last years at Sidney All Care (2014-2022). If asked, she would say she had many great memories of a life well-lived. And, of course, her gratitude to all who helped her, supported her, and loved her along the way…..
She will always be remembered.
“if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all….”
This was an example of how Marlyn lived her life….
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialsaanich.com for the Kearns family.
