Born in Victoria to Beverly and John Watson, Marty grew up at Cedar Grove Marina—an environment that shaped his life from his earliest days. Those docks and boats became the foundation of his lifelong connection to the marine world. It was there that he learned, refined, and ultimately mastered the craft that would make him a respected figure in the boating community.
In the marine industry, Marty was admired for his ingenuity, generosity, and steady competence. Often described as the “Swiss Army knife” of the pleasure-craft world, he offered solutions for everything from marina ramps to anchor lines in remote bays. If you were out on the water and found yourself in trouble, Marty was the person you’d want nearby. With deep knowledge, resourcefulness, and his ever-present WD-40 and duct tape, he helped countless boaters make it home safely. His impact on those who worked with him—and those he quietly rescued or supported—will be remembered fondly.
Marty is survived by his two daughters and his grandchildren. Marty also leaves behind his brother, Trevor Watson, his niece Kathleen Sato, and his nephew Myles Watson, all of whom cared deeply for him. Though he did not see them as often as he wished, he held them close in his heart and always wished them well.
To many, Marty was known as a good and loyal friend—a man with a heart of gold who was quick to help and slow to judge. He was well liked and appreciated by those who crossed his path, both on land and at sea.
Marty lived his life with courage, even while facing the difficult pull of addiction. Though this struggle contributed to his early passing, it does not define who he was. Those who loved him will remember his kindness, his talents, and the many ways he tried to do right by others.
The family extends a very special thank-you to Lesley, whose compassion, dedication, and unwavering support meant everything to Marty in his later years.
A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services & Garden of Memories at 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Dec 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
Please note that the family kindly asks that no one share news of Marty’s passing with his mother, Beverly, who is living with Alzheimer’s. Doing so would cause her unnecessary pain that she would not retain.
