Mom is predeceased by her mother and father Josephine and Brian Fearon, and sister Monica. Mom is survived by her daughters Deirdre and Fidelma, son John Brian (Angela), grandchildren Liadan, Simon, Jaida, Chayse, and Hannah, and sisters Fidelma, Margaret, Colette, and brother Bernard.
Mom was born February 1945, in County Monaghan, Republic of Ireland. She graduated from and practiced nursing at Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast, in 1966. She met our father at a dance, and they were married in 1967. Mom and dad immigrated to Canada (Alberta then Victoria) and had three children. Mom nursed at Gorge Road Hospital, then Luther Court and Sisters of St. Ann’s Residence in Cadboro Bay.
Mom loved nursing (mom was a shop steward for the BCNU for a time, fighting for better nurses’ wages), all sports (she played camogi in Ireland), Irish culture (mom was President of the Irish Canadian Cultural Association for two terms, and was one of the founding members of Faile Rince Vancouver Island), music, reading, playing cards (she was fierce – “you’re going downtown!”), and all things political.
But most of all, mom loved her children and grandchildren. Mom, you are the best Mom and Grammy, ever. Mom was a kind and gentle sister, daughter, and friend, too.
A funeral mass will be held at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 4049 Gordon Head Road, Victoria, BC, on Saturday May 18, 2024, at 9 am.
You fought the good fight mom - We Love you Forever.
