Mohinder Singh Sandhar (January 1, 1929 - February 13, 2026) passed away at the age of 97 after a two year illness. Mohinder was born in Kotli Than Singh, Punjab, India. At a young age, Mohinder joined the Indian Army and served 7 years before immigrating to Canada in 1955. Mohinder’s first job in Canada was working at a lumber mill in Honeymoon Bay and this began his lifelong career of working at mills that included Port Alberni, Tahsis, and Sooke. Mohinder got married on May 27, 1962 to Joginder Kaur (nee Virk) and went on to have three children. Mohinder is survived by his wife Joginder, sons Ronnie (Donna) and Amrit (Cheryl); grandkids Haley (Carl), Joshua (Sydney) and Aashna; and predeceased by his daughter Anita. Mohinder was the last surviving member out of six siblings. Mohinder was known for his humour, generosity, storytelling and love of hunting with his buddies. But most of all, Mohinder found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He will be forever missed by family and friends but his storytelling will live on. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mike Putland and the amazing doctors and nurses at VGH for their care and compassion.
