Joseph Charles Morris Kennedy died peacefully on December 4, 2021, at Broadmead Lodge at the age of 100.
He is survived by Iona, his wife of 74 years, his children Bridget and Andrew (Arlene). He is fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Elizabeth (Serge), John (Heather), Richard, Blair (Carol), Shawn (Adonis) and Boyd as well as an abundance of relatives and friends.
Morris was predeceased by his sisters Gabriella Howell (Phil) and Tina Kennedy, and his son James (2009) and daughter Patricia (2017).
He attended St. Patrick's School in Douglastown, Quebec. He studied French at Seminary Rimouski and attended St. Thomas College in Chatham, New Brunswick. He excelled academically and was able to become proficient in writing and speaking French.
In his youth, he worked at the family’s general store, a lumber mill and a butter factory.
Morris joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (ground crew) during WW2. He tested planes and parachutes in Alaska.
Morris married the love of his life Iona in 1947. Together they built a house and an auto service garage and Studebaker dealership. After being ill with meningitis, he had to close the garage. He then worked for Gaspe Copper Mines, and then started a career with Canada Manpower and Immigration. He was dedicated to his work in the Public Service until he retired.
He worked as a volunteer with the Mentally Handicapped Association, the Boy Scouts of Canada, Master of Ceremonies at St. Patrick’s Day concerts for many years, and his Church Council. His deep catholic faith was a strong influence in his life.
In the early 1990s, Morris and Iona moved to Victoria to be closer to family, and they made many new friends there.
Morris was a caring and thoughtful husband and father. He cherished his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed.
We extend our deep gratitude to all the caregivers and friends at Broadmead Lodge whose compassion helped Morris along his way.
The family will hold a private graveside service.
