He was born and raised in Victoria, BC moving to Calgary in 1981 to take a job with Ipsco and raise his children there.
Neil is survived by his much loved children, daughter Jodene and son Paul (Heather). Paul and Heather gave him his two adored and cherished grandkids Laylah and Kane Jesse, and there is nothing Neil wouldn’t do for his kids and grandchildren, they meant the world to him.
Neil is survived by his brother Dennis (Victoria), sister Sheryl (Rick) brother Leslie ‘Les’, and step-siblings Robert (Pam), Debbie (Vic), Norman, Fran (Steven), and many nieces and nephews.
Neil was predeceased by his partner Kelly Jesse (2001), brother’s Darrin and Scotty, step-brother Bill, Mother Cindy, Father Roy, Stepfather Norman, and so many relatives before that.
We have many fond memories of our brother, like living down the lane from Nan & Grandad Starck on Granville, Neil riding his three wheel bike up the lane to show them; their grande lawn parties with all the cousins; to playing in the swamp on Millstream road and getting leeches on us; to sharing an apartment together (best roommate); to being the first kid to move away to Calgary (poor Mom) and building a life there with his partner Kelly, working at IPSCO and bringing up his two children Jodie and Paul, and getting to experience being a grandfather to Laylah and Kane. Neil loved wholeheartedly and there is nothing he wouldn’t do for his kids and grandchildren.
Neil loved kiddies and would always take the time to say hi and tease them, he loved to see them smile. He was overjoyed with his newest member of the family, his great-niece Willow, who he loved seeing new pictures and a special visit at easter giving her a big colourful bunny. He was alway so thoughtful when it came to little Willow. I would be amiss by not mentioning his love of sports, especially golf and hockey. As a teenager Boston Bruins was his team and then he became a fan of the Canucks and the Seattle Krakens.
Neil loved to play golf with friends right up until his health wouldn’t allow him. Often travelling to the island to play in Victoria when he lived in Calgary.
When Mom died in 2022 we were so shocked but we promised her we would be there for each other and we have done just that. Les and Neil got an apartment together and Les has been by his side everyday taking care of his daily needs. We are so thankful for Les for taking this on and with Sheryl and Rick aiding in taking him to his appointments and picking up whatever he needed. We were a great team and Mom would be so proud.
Now Neil can rest peacefully, free from the day to day stress and struggles he lived everyday with for so many years, especially after COVID forced him to stay home. We love you Neil, we will miss you and your smart ass remarks, and crazy sense of humour.
We loved being a part of your care, even when you drove us crazy. I wouldn’t trade any of it as it built a bond that we hadn’t had for a long time. We were happy to be there for you for as long as you could be.
Until we meet again, we hope you’re getting lots of golf games in dear brother, sending hugs to you and all our family up there, hope you’re having the best family reunion. x0x0
