With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Sister, Aunt and dear friend Norah Laity (Maiden Name: Carroll). After a brief battle with Cancer, Norah passed peacefully at RJH on July 13th with family by her side.
Originally from the quiet village of Cookham in England, she made the bold decision to immigrate to Ontario Canada in the 70s. She lived and studied in Toronto for a brief period, but later moved to the west coast, joining her brother John and sister Pia who had already settled here; later to be joined by her Irish parents Margaret and James who immigrated for the second time in their lives from England.
Norah loved the lifestyle Victoria offered her and flourished in her career here. She joined the Premier's Office in 1981 and was Manager of The Premier's Correspondence Unit, a position she naturally took to. Later she took on the role of Communications Officer for the Environment Ministry. She was respected by all who worked with her and for her.
Norah had a great sense of humour and loved to make people laugh. She had a passion for the natural world, a passion that was fundamental in both her private life and later professional life . Norah, a keen gardener, especially adored horticultural pursuits. Besides gardening, Norah took a keen interest in literature and the arts, and was a champion of Canada's indigenous artists.
Norah, a charitable and thoughtful woman, will be hugely missed, especially by her 2 surviving sisters in England, Bernadette and Maria, and all her nieces and nephews. There's no doubt her character will remain embossed in the thoughts of all those whose hearts she touched throughout her life.
A service will be held at St Andrews Cathedral on Saturday, August the 12th at 12:00. Refreshments will be offered
