He is survived by his sister Betty, son Brett, daughter Barbara, grandchildren; Elizabeth, Connie, Peter, Tina and Helena, great grand children and great great grand child Sylvia. Also many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Peter was predeceased by his father Stefan, his mother Maria, sister Ann, and brothers Bill, John and Joe. Also his wife Jeanette, beloved stepmother Marie and many friends and neighbours, that he mostly outlived.
Peter was born in Brule, Ontario on July 4th, 1930 and grew up in Barvis, Sask and Diamond Ont living through the Great Depression. He started hard work a gangly 15 y.o. with the CPR section gang in Ontario. Living in Lac du Bonnet he met his wife Jeanette Snead and married in 1957 starting his family, raising Brett and Barbara. Moving shortly thereafter to Winnipeg he spent several years with the Highways and installed many of the overhead signs dotting the Perimeter Highway to this day. On a trip west he and Jeanette fell in love with Vancouver Island and in 1965 the family moved to Victoria BC. With Jeanette designing, they renovated the house on Donald street, building a beautiful home with Peter's many talents displayed throughout the property. This was also the start of his career and membership of nearly 60 years with L.U. 1598 Carpenters Union. Peter loved working and would have continued as long as someone would've hired him, but...
After a serious work injury, Peter spent his final 40 years in Sooke, BC making a comfortable home and enjoying salmon fishing often with friend Stan Wells when he could. He was visited often by his son Brett and relations from Victoria including friends and family on vacation sharing his west coast paradise. Peter was adopted by his beloved stray cats; Charcoal, Snoopy, Sweetie, Percy and many deer over the years. Experienced in his youth Peter couldn't see anything go hungry. The cats and deer were/are fat. It must also be noted as a testament to Peter's character, he lived those last 40 years in almost constant pain and persevered stoically everyday only ever asking for help when he was absolutely unable to do something. Right to the end.
