Rita Beryl Cafferky

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and family matriarch, Rita. She rejoins her husband, Blair, and her son, Shawn, along with her parents, Hugh and Mary Baxter; her brothers, Jack and Jim; her sisters, Patricia and Marion; and many cherished relatives and friends who went before her.

Rita and Blair shared 62 beautiful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, devotion, and laughter. She leaves behind her loving children, Brad (Karen), Brenda (Reg), Bruce (Naiomi), her treasured grandchildren, Courtnay, Keara (Wynn), Matthew, and Mateo, and many nieces and nephews. To her family, she was the heart of everything, a steady presence who made everyone feel loved and supported.

Born in North Vancouver, Rita spent her early years on the North Shore before moving to Vancouver. She married Blair in 1956, and together they made their home in Vancouver, with a brief time in Toronto, before settling in Victoria. While in Victoria, Rita worked for many years at a chartered accounting practice, where her kindness, dedication, and steady presence were greatly valued.

Mum was the rock of our family. She was incredibly strong and stoic, yet endlessly kind, generous, and blessed with a great sense of humour. She never complained and always put others first, caring far more about the happiness and well-being of those around her than her own. Her life was a living example of grace, compassion, and selflessness. In our hardest moments, we often asked ourselves, “What would Rita do?” and the answer never failed to guide us.

Rita found great comfort and strength in her faith, especially through the loss of her son Shawn and her beloved husband Blair. Now, after a life so fully and gracefully lived, she has earned her rest and is embraced in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.

A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date, and details will be shared with family and friends when available.

She will be forever missed and forever loved..
