It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Rodney, affectionately known as "Poppy" by those who loved him most. Rodney's journey in this world was filled with adventure, love, and laughter, and though we mourn his loss, we celebrate a life that was truly well-lived.
Born under the African sun in Johannesburg, Rod's journey would take him far from those early beginnings. But perhaps it was there that he first developed his lifelong love of sunshine and the water – a love that would later find its perfect expression in his cherished days at the cottage on the lake.
For an incredible 68 years, Rod and Mavis lovingly crafted their life story together. Their journey was filled with remarkable chapters, from thrilling motorcycle escapades across Europe – Mavis gripping tightly behind him – to establishing a life and family in Winnipeg during Rod's successful career as an Executive Producer at CKY-TV. Their unwavering devotion and shared dreams stand as a testament to the strength of their partnership.
As a father to Jedda, Jindalee (Dan), Lincoln (Rita), and Joalah, Rod demonstrated that family was the foundation of his world. As Poppy to Kaija, Georgia, Mexx, Owen, Griffin, and Kiki, he experienced immeasurable joy, and his legacy endures through them. The memories they cherish – of traveling, boat rides, leisurely days on the deck, and endless laughter – will be treasured forever.
Rod possessed the ability to find happiness in life's simplest pleasures. Basking in the sun during a day on the boat, sharing stories at happy hour, or gathering with loved ones over the holidays, he transformed ordinary moments into extraordinary ones. His final Christmas, surrounded by family, was a fitting tribute to a man who recognized that life's true wealth lies in the love we share with others.
To know Rod was to experience joy. His laughter was contagious, his stories enthralling, and his enthusiasm for life irresistible. He approached each day with a sense of adventure and an open heart, forging friendships wherever he went. Even today, his former colleagues from CKY Television in Winnipeg fondly recall his warmth and charisma.
To Mavis, his children, and his grandchildren – your Poppy led a life worth celebrating. He taught us all how to greet each day with eagerness, how to find beauty in ordinary moments, and how to keep the spirit of adventure alive within us. While we will deeply miss his physical presence, his spirit endures through the lake's gentle waves, the laughter of his grandchildren, and every beautiful sunset that reminds us of happy hours spent together.
So, today, we raise our glasses in honor of Rodney John Webb – a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. A man who understood that life was meant to be lived fully and joyously. He demonstrated that every boat ride is an adventure, every gathering a celebration, and every moment with family a precious gift to be cherished.
Cheers, Poppy. May you forever feel the sun on your face and the wind in your sails. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
