up at 845 Pasqua Street, where he spent grueling hours playing
shinny, football, kick-the-can and riding the bumpers of buses
while sliding down the icy streets with his brothers.
He was a family man and took great care of his parents and
stayed connected with his close cousins. Beyond sport, Ron had
an aptitude for tweaking oldies music lyrics and being silly with
acts like the “fartgun”. All of which played to how he saw the
humour and joy in most everything – especially a little Keno
or Gamblers delight.
His beliefs were prairie practical. His kids – Alanna (Tim), Danielle
(Greg) and Ryan (Chantal) – always felt loved and supported with
dad was on the sidelines of every baseball game, or a helping
hand to teach them how to drive and to parent while offering a
calming bit of advice, “Go with the flow”.
Along with careers in both finance and family rearing, Ron had a
loyal, long-term crew of friends always at the ready for coffee,
breakfast or a ride along Dallas Road. Ron was a huge sports fan
and always had something on the TV in the background –
(Roughriders, Blue Jays, Raptors , and even curling). Although his
health challenges in later life concealed a youth teeming in
athletic accomplishments, even including a tryout for the Houston
Astros in 1966.
Ron had enough calm and love to see him through two marriages
and the crushing loss of his son Darren. He thrived on making his
children and grandchildren (Stella, Lucy, Ethan, Carter, Aria and
Ava) laugh and was often caught making Donald
Duck voices. Ronnie had a magnetic personality, he was genuine
and caring and would give you the shirt off his back. Father,
brother, friend and comedian, he leaves a Ron-size hole in our
hearts.
Our family will be holding a memorial service on Saturday,
February 23rd at 2:00 PM, at Holy Cross Parish Hall, 4049
Gordon Head Rd. Victoria, BC.
