Sandy was born in Sopron, Hungary, on April 12, 1935. He was raised by a single mother and joined the Hungarian military at a young age. During the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, he and his former wife escaped through Austria to a refugee camp in England before settling in Ontario, Canada, where their daughter, Erzsebet “Elizabeth”, was born.
Later, after moving to Victoria, BC, Sandy met his wife of 57 years, Rosemary (Keays), on a blind date. They married on October 17, 1964, at the Fairfield United Church and went on to have two sons, Paul and Murray. In Hungary, Sandy had been trained as a mold maker working in a foundry. These skills served him well over the years as he worked in different capacities within the manufacturing industry here in Canada to provide for his family.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving husband, father, and papa, Sandy also loved gardening, playing his mouth organ, listening to hymns, and finding ways to serve those he loved.
He served as a Deacon at Oak Bay Gospel Assembly for many years, and represented the Assembly by serving as a Camp Imadene Society member. Throughout his life, he held an unwavering faith in the Lord. He was a bright and shining light to all through his daily demonstration of Jesus’ heart for serving.
Sandy is predeceased by his mother Rozália, father Józef, and his siblings Józef, Terez, and Erzsebet. He is survived by his wife Rosemary; his children Elizabeth, Paul (Cheryl), Murray (Shanna); and his grandchildren Shannon (Nadvi), Megan, and Kevin.
“I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things, I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:12-13 NKJV
