It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Stuart. Predeceased by Shirley, his loving wife of 60 years, Stuart is survived by his daughter Kim Prince (David), son Ken MacFarlane (Lois), granddaughters Ashley Logan (Wade) and Carleigh Mason (Marshal). Papa Stu will be greatly missed by his great grandchildren Dallas, Ryder, Marley, Jett and Nash.
Stu was born in Michel BC, a small coal mining town. After working in the mines as a teenager, he sought higher education and moved to Victoria where he completed his education degree between Victoria College and UVic. Stu’s passion was teaching others, spending his 33 year career between 11 different Victoria elementary schools as both a teacher and Vice Principal. He is fondly remembered by his students, who respected his teaching abilities, the discipline he instilled, the compassion he gave and the fairness he bestowed within his class.
He also loved sports, both playing and coaching. Soccer, hockey, baseball and curling were his favorites (go Leafs, Dodgers and Vic West!). A favourite memory was coaching his son in 1974 on the Olympics, winning the provincial soccer championship. Stu also loved hunting and fishing with his close group of friends, hobbies he enjoyed his whole life.
We lost a great man with the passing of Stu. He always had a story to tell, helped others in need and was a great friend to many.
