It is with great sadness that the Johal family announces the passing of their beloved mother and grandmother. Surjit was born in Dhuleta, Punjab, India, on May 22, 1953, and later moved to Victoria, BC, Canada, in 1970.
Surjit centered her life around her family, finding deep happiness in her roles as a mother, grandmother, and wife. She was the family matriarch—the heart and soul of her home. Her smile and vibrant energy uplifted everyone around her, and her kindness and warmth touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She will be fondly remembered for her beautiful voice and her love of singing, often sharing heartfelt songs at family gatherings and celebrations. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where she brought people together with warmth, laughter, and delicious food. She possessed an abundance of talents and thrived in everything she pursued.
Surjit was predeceased by her father, Banta Singh Sihota; her mother, Rajinder Kaur Sihota; her husband, Kuldip Singh Johal; and her siblings, Raish Singh Sihota and Pritam Kaur Sanghera.
She is survived by her son, Kerry (Sukhi); her daughters, Nina, Mina (Sony), and Ruby (Taran); and her cherished grandchildren, Maya, Hera, Kade, Jay, Felina, Zia, Zayden, and Aria.
Her love and legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
