Sylvia Winifred Preto

It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of our sweet, loving Mom. Predeceased by her brothers Trevor, Owen, Mickey and Neville, Sylvia passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 3, 2025. She lived a wonderful 89 years.

Born in Kelowna, B.C., Sylvia was the youngest of five children, born to Owen Lewis Jones and Margaret Jones (Harrison). She lived in the Victoria area for most of her life, travelled to live in the Yukon for several years, seeking new adventures with family, and then returned to Sidney, B.C. in 2012.

Sylvia loved her family, meeting new people, adventuring outdoors, reading, weaving, spinning, gardening, music, writing, and was very proud of her Welsh heritage. Sylvia devoted her life to helping others both as a social worker and a mother. She was also a very proud and beloved “Nain” to her five grandchildren. Mom always had a generous heart and would open her door to anyone in need.

Sylvia will always be lovingly remembered by her sons, Steven, Andrew (Lisa), and daughter Maria (Jeff); and adoring grandchildren Anna-Maria, Matteo, Adrianna, Rose, Sylvia, and other extended family.

Her family wishes to thank all of Mom’s friends at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney, Dr Fiona Coleman, Dr Ade Ibikunle, and the staff at Shoreline Medical for their loving care of Mom over the years and most recently, the staff at VIHA and Gorge Road Hospital, especially the palliative care nurses-angels from above.

You will forever be in our hearts Mom. May you rest peacefully in heaven with those you love.
