wee hours of December 13, 2020. Born in
Naden Hospital in 1932 he grew up in Esquimalt.
He met our mom Catherine (nee Kennedy) at Friday
Night Skate at the old Memorial Arena and they were
married in 1956.
Dad was a plasterer by trade, D.N.D. Firefighter, fuel
Supervisor at YYJ and S.D. 63 employee. He was a self taught
carpenter with a love for the water. With the help of his brother
Ken, he built a beautiful boat that we enjoyed for many
summers. Eventually he found his love for sailing and
Sundays were spent racing with his buddies off of Sidney.
He was on the foredeck for many Swiftsure, Southern
Straits and countless other races. He sailed with friends
to Maui one year “for fun”.
Dad had a great sense of humour, a short fuse, was quick to help
others and always had a project on the go. He loved dogs.
Thanks to the team at The Summit at Quadra Village for taking
such great care of dad. Thanks also to his friends along the way,
some of whom we met and others who were in his stories over the
years - and there were some pretty good stories!
Dad was pre-deceased by his brothers Ray and Ken,
sisters Doreen Hardy, and Lillian Lee. He leaves behind our mom Catherine,
Cori (Dan), Craig, his granddaughter’s Cara and Tahlia and numerous
nieces and nephews.
We will be spreading dads ashes near Race Rocks when we can be together.
Until we meet again “Sail the salt sea boys”.
