A devoted, hard-working husband, father, and grandfather, Jack is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his children Bill (Tatum), Lauren (James), Christine (Andrew), and Ally (Brett); and his grandchildren Annella, Jacqui, Luke, Alexandra, Adam, and Joey. He always said, “I’m the world’s luckiest husband, dad, and grandpa,” and those who knew him saw that he meant it, fully and gratefully.
Jack graduated with Honours from Carleton University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Raised in an Air Force family, he went on to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1968 to 1974 as a Tank Commander, an experience that led him on adventures around
the world. He served with both the 8CH and the Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD).
Jack then built a long career as an RCMP officer, a calling that took him and his family across British Columbia before they settled in Victoria in 1994. He retired from the RCMP in 2005. His service also extended beyond Canada. Jack served on a United Nations mission
in Bosnia and Kosovo, and later trained police officers in Kenya and Darfur, Sudan. Throughout his life, he led with service and sacrifice, grounded in principle and duty.
In recent years, Jack was a member of the Sidney Rotary Club, where he lived out the club’s motto of “Service above self.” He resided in Sidney, British Columbia, continuing to give his time and spirit in the community he called home.
Jack once shared what he most wanted to be remembered as “a person who tried his best, who loved his family, and one who stood for his most ethical beliefs.” He will be remembered exactly that way: steadfast and caring, guided by integrity, and anchored by love.
