Arthur (Arturo) Aleman Montez, 87, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at home. He was born on April 5, 1936, in Bloomington, Texas. Arthur’s passion for hard work began early as a young shoe-shiner and subsequently paper delivery boy in Victoria, Texas. As a teen he enlisted with the US army and spent time in Korea during The Korean War. Arthur then spent the majority of his career in the steel industry working his way up from welder to superintendent. As an avid outdoorsman, he found immense joy in fishing. Upon retirement, he spent most of his time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Elena Montez, and children, Arthur Montez, Jr., Alexander Montez, Allyson Montez, David (Gracie) Gonzales, Al (Melody) Montez, Anna Montez, and Mary (Charalabos) Patsatzis; and his loving sister, Mary Alice Gomez. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Celia Saenz Montez, and siblings Anselmo Gilberto Montez, Macedonio Montez, and Bertha Montez Villarreal.
Arthur never knew a stranger and was always there to help whenever someone was in need. If it was broken, he would fix it. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will be his hard work, strong will, and love for his wife and family. May he rest in peace knowing that his memory will live on.
